Planning Your Group Glazing Event
The Glaze Garden is a small, artist-run pottery studio, and group glazing events are designed to be relaxed, creative, and easy to enjoy—even if you've never glazed pottery before!
Here are a few things to know as you plan your group:

The studio can accommodate up to 16 seated glazing guests.
For the most comfortable experience, groups of 12 or fewer will have a little more room to spread out, move around the studio, and choose their pottery and supplies.
Maximum seated capacity: 16 guests
If your group may be larger than 16, please reach out before making plans. Depending on the event, we may be able to discuss multiple sessions or another arrangement.

Large groups should plan for approximately 2 hours in the studio.
This gives everyone time to:
Arrive and get settled
Choose their pottery
Receive glazing instructions
Select colors and supplies
Design and glaze their pieces
Finish up without feeling rushed
Some guests will naturally finish sooner than others, but your group's reservation will be scheduled as a two-hour session.

When your group arrives, We'll give everyone a brief introduction to the studio, explain how the glazes work, and go over a few tips for getting the best results.
Then everyone gets to create!
Each guest can select a piece of pottery, choose their glaze colors, and decorate their piece in their own way. Our staff be available throughout your session to answer questions, help with techniques, and keep everyone supplied with what they need.
No pottery or painting experience is necessary.

Choose from the Studio Shelves
Guests can choose from the pottery available in the studio when they arrive. Shelf inventory changes regularly and is first come, first served, so specific pieces or quantities cannot be guaranteed.Request Pottery in Advance
If you'd like to make sure everyone has access to a particular form—such as mugs, bowls, berry bowls, vases, or platters—you can request those pieces by completing a custom order form at the bottom of this webpage. I'll make and bisque-fire them ahead of your event and have them ready for your group.You can also do a combination of the two!

Your pottery stays at The Glaze Garden after your event.
We'll clear glaze the pieces when needed, load and fire them in the kiln, and let you know when they're ready to go home.
Because pottery must be completely dry and safely fired, finished pieces are not available to take home the day of your event.
Current turnaround times are 7-10 business days.
One person from your group can pick up everyone's finished pottery together, or individual pickup arrangements can be made.

Due to the heavy metals contained in glaze, it is not recommended to eat while glazing pottery. However, drinks are welcome anywhere.
Outside food (such as cake or snacks) is permitted, but should be kept to a designated area and consumed with care to avoid contact with work surfaces or materials.
Beverages are allowed and encouraged to help guests stay comfortable during their session.
Alcohol is not allowed in The Glaze Garden.
If you choose to bring food for a celebration, please plan for it to remain secondary to the glazing activity and contained within your reserved time.
Your two-hour reservation includes setup, glazing, any brief food or celebration time, and cleanup.

Please keep in mind that The Glaze Garden is a working pottery studio with pottery, glaze materials, tools, and equipment throughout the space. Anyone old enough to hold a brush is welcome to glaze, but children must remain supervised by an accompanying adult during their visit.

The Glaze Garden is located inside historic Old Central School. Elevator access is available through the north entrance.
If someone in your group has an accessibility need that we should know about before your visit, please include it in your request so we can help make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Groups are always welcome to choose from the pottery currently available on The Glaze Garden shelves, or you can request specific pieces to be made in advance for your group.

Please note: This form is a request. Your group date, quantities, and requested pottery are not confirmed until you receive confirmation from The Glaze Garden. Submissions will be reviewed during the studio’s open hours and responses sent between the hours of 10am and 4pm Tuesday through Saturday.
Pricing
Pottery is priced per piece based on the form and size selected. Your group is responsible only for the pieces purchased for your event.
If you request pottery to be handmade and reserved specifically for your group, I’ll provide pricing when your request is reviewed so you know the expected cost before confirming.
Important: Advance-Made Pottery
When pottery is handmade specifically for your group, those pieces are created and reserved based on the quantities you request.
This is different from choosing from regular shelf inventory, which does not require you to commit to particular pottery forms ahead of time.
How Much Time Should We Allow
Because requested pieces are individually handmade, dried, trimmed, bisque fired, and prepared for glazing, advance pottery requests should be submitted at least 2 weeks before your group date whenever possible.
Larger groups or requests involving a large quantity of one particular form may require additional lead time.
Need something sooner? You're still welcome to submit a request! We'll let you know what we can realistically have available.
Pottery doesn't particularly enjoy being rushed, so availability for short-notice requests will depend on the existing production and firing schedule.

Group sizes of more than 16 cannot be accommodated at this time.
Pottery available on the regular studio shelves is first come, first served.
Specific shelf pieces cannot be reserved or guaranteed unless arrangements have been made in advance.
Pottery requested specifically for any group will be handmade and may naturally vary slightly in shape, size, and appearance.
Advance-made group pottery is not considered a custom commission unless custom designs, dimensions, personalization, or other special features have been separately arranged.
Advance pottery requests should generally be made at least two weeks before the event.
Large quantities or certain pottery forms may require additional production time.
Final pricing will be provided before a pottery event is confirmed.
Requested quantities should reflect the group's realistic expected attendance and pottery needs.
